The School of Engineering of the HES-SO Valais-Wallis is seeking a successor for the role of

Head of the Life Sciences Research Institute

Position description:

• As a member of the School of Engineering’s management team, contribute to the definition and implementation of its academic and institutional strategy
• Lead the research institute’s research and innovation strategy in line with the university’s academic priorities and industry needs, in coordination with the head of the degree programme
• Oversee the academic, financial and operational management of the research institute
• Establish and develop partnerships with industry, academia and public bodies at regional, national and international levels
• Support teams (around 85 staff members) in the development of applied research and innovation projects
• Contribute to the quality and recognition of the university’s research and innovation activities
• Work in close coordination with the head of the degree programme to align research and education
• Teach in your area of expertise

Selection criteria:

• PhD in life sciences
• Established track record in scientific research and academic publishing
• Ability to develop and implement a medium- to long-term strategic vision and to anticipate developments in the life sciences
• Proven leadership skills, with the ability to motivate teams, communicate effectively and take decisions
• Strong understanding of the industrial and institutional landscape in the life sciences at regional, national and international levels; industry experience is an advantage
• Good understanding of research funding mechanisms and related reporting requirements
• Familiarity with the Swiss tertiary education landscape; teaching experience at the tertiary level is an advantage
• Native French or German speaker with very good knowledge of the second language and of English
